Shaunagh Brown Joins the Fight: A Rose 🌹 with Real Power
Now this one right here… this one gave us goosebumps.
A massive, heartfelt thank you goes out to none other than Shaunagh Brown—former England rugby union powerhouse, firefighter, gas engineer, hammer thrower, diver, Strongwoman competitor, motivational speaker, and all-round force of nature—for sending a beautiful and heartfelt message to our Slammin’ Sam B.
Shaunagh isn’t just a rugby legend, she’s living proof that limits exist only to be smashed.
To have someone as respected, admired, and straight-up inspirational as Shaunagh take the time to support Sam means the world to us. And more importantly, it sends a message to every child fighting cancer right now: You are seen. You are strong. And we are standing with you.
Seeing the Roses and women’s rugby family join the fight brings a whole new level of power to this campaign. Shaunagh—thank you for being part of Sam’s journey, for raising your voice, and for being the brilliant example you are.
Who is Shaunagh Brown?
Born in London on March 15, 1990, Shaunagh Brown’s life has been anything but ordinary.
Before her rugby career even began, Shaunagh was already flying the flag for England as a track and field athlete, representing the nation in the hammer throw at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also took on discus, shot put, and competed in Strongwoman contests—because of course she did.
But in 2015, she picked up a rugby ball at Medway RFC… and history was made.
By 2017, Shaunagh earned her first cap for England Red Roses, making an immediate impact against Canada. Over the next five years, she became a cornerstone of the team, playing a crucial role in multiple Women’s Six Nations victories, including full-blown Grand Slam wins. 🏆🌹
Her club career was just as impressive, with Harlequins Women. In 2021, she helped lead them to glory, lifting the Premier 15s title.
And that’s just the rugby bit…
More Than a Player
Shaunagh’s life beyond the pitch reads like a superhero origin story. She’s been a:
- Commercial diver
- Gas engineer
- Firefighter with Kent Fire and Rescue Service
… all before becoming one of the most recognised voices for equality, diversity, and inclusion in sport. 💪🔥
She was named one of the Evening Standard’s Most Influential Londoners in 2019 and continues to inspire as a motivational speaker, proving that impact off the pitch is just as powerful as what happens on it.
After 30 caps for England, Shaunagh retired in December 2022—but let’s be honest, legends like her never really retire.
Shaunagh’s Message to Sam
Her message to Sam was everything you’d expect—raw, real, emotional, and uplifting. She spoke with genuine warmth and courage, echoing everything we stand for with Rugby vs Cancer.
Thank you, Shaunagh. You’ve just brought even more firepower to the Slammin’ Sam B Team. 🌟
Roses, We See You 🌹
This campaign has seen support from some of the biggest names in rugby—and now it’s the women of rugby stepping up and showing how strong the game truly is. We’re hoping Shaunagh is just the first of many Roses to jump on board and help raise awareness for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and the brave warriors like Sam who are battling every single day.
Rugby is a game of strength, spirit, and standing together.
This is Rugby vs Cancer. This is Team Slammin’ Sam B.
Let’s keep it rolling. 💥
